Singing for the Brain is a unique and uplifting group activity that brings people together through the power of music. Specifically designed for people living with dementia and their carers, these sessions create a joyful space where singing becomes a way to connect, communicate, and find moments of shared happiness.

What to Expect

Each session is friendly, inclusive, and carefully structured to make everyone feel at ease. We start with gentle warm-ups and breathing exercises, followed by familiar songs that spark memories and encourage participation. There’s no pressure to sing perfectly; this is about enjoying the music, the moment, and each other’s company.

Sessions may also include simple actions or rhythm games to keep things engaging and fun, always with flexibility to suit the needs of those attending. Whether participants choose to sing, hum, clap along, or simply listen, everyone is welcome and valued.

Why Singing?

Music has a unique ability to unlock memories and reach parts of the brain less affected by dementia. Singing, in particular, engages both the mind and body; it stimulates cognitive function, supports language and recall, and improves mood and wellbeing.

Many participants and their families tell us how singing helps them feel more connected, not just to music, but to each other. It can break through isolation, spark meaningful conversation, and foster a sense of belonging.
